BID Thesis Project - Intergenerational Center

PROPOSAL & PURPOSE
According to my research, the City of Toronto plans to move toward an age-friendly city and has come up with service plan principles to guide future improvement. These principles include: equity, inclusion, respect, and quality of life. The city's plan provides a great opportunity to foster, an Intergenerational Community Centre, with a mission to primarily support an Adult-Day program. The centre will aim to follow the principles set out by the City of Toronto by through providing social/health services and encouraging of planned/informal social activities.

LOCATION - 211 Yonge St., Toronto, Ontario, Canada
211 Yonge St. also known as the Adams Building is located near the intersection of Yonge and Queen. The site is located in front of CF Toronto Eaton Centre and is surrounded by restaurants, a bank, and residential suites. The building is also in close proximity to art galleries, museums, parks, churches, and hospitals. Conveniently, stairs leading down to Queen subway station is locate right in front of the building. The building is currently a mixed-use building with retail and corporate clients. 211 Yonge St., Adams Building was named after its first initial use - Adams Furniture Co. Architects William Steele & Sons Co built the Adams Building in 1920 and it has since kept its original state. It is also recognized as a heritage building by the City of Toronto. The building is built using heavy Douglas fir timber, pine wood floors, and heavy steel, while the columns vary in material such as wood or cast iron. The first floor with mezzanine of the site is currently used as a retail space, while the second floor is used as an office space. Building windows overlooking the CF Toronto Eaton Centre are large and framed in black steel.
